Once upon a time in America, elections were the final say. If you won, you got to govern. "The people spoke," and that was that. Not today. The Republican Party has decided that elections don't matter anymore. Even if they don't win, they have to get their way. Let's stop pretending this isn't the case. It's obvious.
Mitch McConnell is in Washington saying he won't let President Obama seat a new nominee on the U.S. Supreme Court, basically because he disagrees with him. Out in Harrisburg, the Republican legislature isn't even attempting a vote on the agreement they had forged with Governor Tom Wolf on a budget, even though it had the 102 votes to pass around Christmas, because they don't like that he's governor. Whether it's in the nation's capitol or your state capitol, if a Democrats leads the executive branch and the Republicans can stop them from doing stuff, they are.
Let's stop pretending you can appeal to the hearts and minds of Republican elected officials. You can't. You either make deals with them that give both sides what they want, or you strike the fear of God into them, but you won't just impress them with the morality of your argument.
