Hate Your Party? Join It

A lot of voters, Democrat and Republican, have been complaining about their parties this year. They've called them everything from inept to corrupt (which is worse?). They've complained about their Presidential choices, the calendar of primaries, the closed systems of the primaries, and everything in between.

Parties are not faceless organizations in Washington. They are local parties in your town. Every county in the country holds elections for precinct committeeman on the county Democratic and Republican committees. If you don't like the positions of the party you should be agreeing with, start there. Take part in the process, stop throwing bombs at it. Run for county committee, then move up. Keep going from there. Run for office. If you want your party to change, go change it. Don't complain about something you are doing nothing to make better.
