Irv Gotti. 50 Cent. Ja Rule. If you were as disappointed by the recent Meek Mill-Drake battle that ended in Drake whipping Meek, while noting that he's soft too, have no fear. The era of rap beef from the early to mid-2000s is coming back into style, or at least having a temporary re-birth in the media. Consider:
- Irv did a recent series of taped interviews where he addressed topics ranging from the beef with Fifth to Jay Z's "beat biting" and not believing in DMX. Gotti didn't pull any punches in the interviews, and actually was really interesting.
- 50 Cent is everywhere. He's on the "Effen Vodka" tour right now, beefing with Rick Ross again on Instagram, and even ripping on Ronda Rousey for his old buddy Floyd Mayweather Jr.
- Ja Rule recently did an interview where he touched on Fifty's bankruptcy, amongst many other topics.
None of this means that rap will stop being Drake, and start being 50 again. I can hope though, right? I mean, enough rapping about nothing, can we get back to actual storytelling again?
